What you need to know before your first virtual training class
Welcome! I’m so glad you’ve decided to begin your virtual training journey. To make sure your first class goes smoothly and you feel comfortable and prepared, here are a few key things to know before we get started.
1. Set Up Your Space
Choose a quiet, well-lit area with enough room to move freely. Ideally, you’ll want enough space for a yoga mat or exercise mat and a little extra room on each side so you can stretch and move without restriction. A stable internet connection is essential so that we can see and hear each other clearly.
2. Technology Check
All sessions are held on Google Meet. Please make sure your device has working video and audio. If possible, place your camera so that your whole body is visible when standing, sitting, and lying down. This allows me to give you personalized corrections and feedback, just like an in-person class.
3. What to Wear
Wear comfortable, supportive clothing that allows you to move with ease. Think fitted but not restrictive. Bare feet or supportive training shoes are usually best, depending on the style of class.
4. Equipment to Have on Hand
You don’t need much to get started! At a minimum, a mat is recommended. Depending on your program, you may also benefit from light hand weights, a resistance band, or a small stability ball. If you don’t have these right away, don’t worry — I’ll always provide modifications so you can work with what you have.
Here are some products I recommend buying:
Perform Better: First Place Mini Band
Fitness First: Foam Roller - Full Round
Merrithew: Flex-Band Two-Pack for Pilates
5. Hydration and Safety
Have water nearby to stay hydrated. Listen to your body during class and never push into pain. If you have any pre-existing injuries or health concerns, please let me know beforehand so I can tailor exercises to your needs.
6. Arrive a Few Minutes Early
Log on 5–10 minutes before class begins. This gives us time to make sure your setup is working, answer any questions, and start right on schedule without stress.
7. Mindset Matters
Come in with an open mind and the willingness to learn. Every class is an opportunity to build strength, balance, and confidence. Progress happens step by step, and I’ll be with you every step of the way.
Your first session is about getting comfortable, understanding the flow, and setting a strong foundation. With the right setup and preparation, you’ll be ready to get the most out of every class.
I’m looking forward to training with you — let’s get started!
